Clueless influencer sparks outrage filming skincare routine during lengthy movie: ‘So insanely rude’

A popular skincare influencer who has over two million social media followers has sparked online debate after filming herself doing a complete, multi-step skincare routine inside a packed cinema during a screening of “The Odyssey.”

The injectables nurse and content creator, known online as @np.miranda, uploaded a viral TikTok showing off her extensive beauty regimen in the middle of a movie theater.

The video begins with the nurse pulling on a skincare headband to sweep her hair back while seated in a crowded row.

She then digs into her toiletries bag to pull out a bottle of micellar cleansing water, wiping down her face with a cotton pad.

Next, she sprays her face with an exosome facial mist before applying Volufline neck cream, which she said was used to help with tech neck.

She follows this up with a density-restoring eye cream and a full collagen sheet mask “to lock it all in,” placing the wet mask directly over her face in the dark cinema.

To complete the routine, she applies a propolis-infused lip mask and casually munches on a bag of jerky and sips a soft drink.

She captioned the video: “POV, the movie is 3 hours long,” adding, “Anyone else bring their own skincare and snacks to the movies?”

Outraged moviegoers call out behavior

While the nurse framed the routine as harmless self-care to ensure her skin stayed hydrated throughout the long sitting, thousands of social media users quickly flooded the comment section to criticize the act as “peak influencer entitlement.”

Many viewers shared their complete exhaustion with online creator culture, with one top-voted comment simply stating, “I’m so tired of influencer culture.”

Someone else wrote: “TikTok needs to create a dislike button.”

Several commenters also voiced frustration over the lack of basic movie theater etiquette, arguing that having a phone screen glowing continuously in a dark cinema ruins the experience for surrounding moviegoers.

“People should respect the cinema environment,” one user pointed out.

“Using your phone during the movie can be distracting because the light from the screen bothers other people who are trying to enjoy the film,” they added, suggesting that “doing your skincare routine in a cinema doesn’t really seem appropriate” and that she should have just stayed home.

Others branded the entire ordeal as an obvious plea for internet clout, with one observer noting, “This deserves a Grammy because it’s HELLA performative.”

“Girl, what the hell, just watch the movie,” another frustrated user chimed in, while someone else said that “people are so desperate for attention it’s kinda insane.”

Many reiterated that beauty routines belong behind closed doors, declaring that “skincare is a home activity” and calling the stunt “the level of unnecessary.”

“If I see your damn light on through my entire movie I’m getting you kicked out – this is so insanely rude,” yet another critic shared.

“People have no social etiquette anymore,” another commenter lamented, while another dubbed the thought of sitting near her “a nightmare.”

‘Multi-tasking at its finest’

Despite the backlash, a section of the comment section defended the beauty nurse, insisting the routine was harmless and even clever.

Some users claimed they wouldn’t have even noticed her in the dark, with one writing, “I really don’t understand how this could possibly bother anyone else.”

Another supporter claimed, “Some people just have to look for something to complain about.”

Others were inspired by the idea, calling it a great way to pass the time during a lengthy film.

“This is actually hilarious and also so convenient,” one fan admitted, adding, “I fear I must try this very soon.”

The creator herself jumped into the replies to agree that it was simply “multi-tasking at its finest.”

“I’m confused … Why does everyone have a problem with her wearing a face mask at the cinema?” another defender asked, calling the setup “the dream.”

You’re not imagining it, movies are getting longer

It comes as major Hollywood movies are getting longer.

Data tracking theater releases show that the average runtime for big-budget films has grown from roughly 106 minutes in the 1990s and early 2000s to about 114 minutes or more today, with $100+ million movies frequently pushing past the 150-to-170-minute mark.

The genre most responsible for this is action films, which now average 128 minutes, a full 25 minutes longer than a few decades ago.

The reasons for the growth include the rise of digital projection and studios increasingly wanting films to feel like major events, especially in this era of trying to sell premium-format theater tickets like IMAX.

Last year, “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve argued that younger viewers, especially, tend to prefer longer films.

“’Oppenheimer’ is a three-hour, rated-R film about nuclear physics that is mostly talking,” Villeneuve said.

“But the public was young, that was the movie of the year by far for my kids. There is a trend. The youth love to watch long movies because if they pay, they want to see something substantial. They are craving meaningful content.”
