The alleged discovery of dozens of 3D-printed handguns on the Gold Coast has led to the arrest of two Brisbane men.
A Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was stopped at Surfers Paradise on Saturday, and police seized a black plastic container from the boot.
Officers allegedly found 34 Glock-style 3D-printed guns, 800 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition, handgun magazines, rifle magazines, plastic rifle trigger guard assemblies and a hard drive containing blueprints for printing 3D firearms inside.
Photos supplied by police at the scene show weapons with the distinctive lined textured associated with mass-produced machines widely available at office and electronics stores.
Two men – a 43-year-old from West End and 39-year-old man from Kangaroo Point – were arrested and taken to Southport Watchhouse.
Police searched properties at West End and Kangaroo Point, but did not say if more illegal material was found.
“Detectives are committed to disrupting and taking action against the possession and supply of unlawful firearms to make our community safer,” detective acting inspector Adrian Sala said in a statement.
The men were hit with a string of charges including supplying a category H firearm, possessing a category H firearm, possession and distribution of blueprint material for firearm manufacturing, unlawful possession of weapons, possessing short firearms in public, and possession of dangerous drugs.
Both were refused bail and appeared at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
