Fla. prisoner giggles as he learns fate for viciously stabbing cellmate in the brain with a pen: ‘God have mercy on your soul’

A Florida prisoner reportedly giggled upon learning he was getting slapped with a life sentence for fatally stabbing his cellmate in the brain with a pen.

Marcus Terry, 43, learned he would be sentenced to life behind bars for a second time during a court hearing on Tuesday for stabbing his cellmate, 64-year-old Ray Matos, to death inside the Dade Correctional Institute in Homestead in 2021, NBC Miami reported.

Terry’s attorney, Steven Yermish, requested Judge Ellen Sue Venzer grant the maniac a new trial — arguing inadmissible evidence made it into his trial when he was found guilty of second-degree murder in December 2025, according to the outlet.

Venzer, however, denied the motion and proceeded to sentence him after detailing his heinous actions.

“He shoved a pillowcase into his mouth,” Venzer told the courtroom.

“When the guards came in to find out what was going on, he was standing on top of this man, and his hand was bloodied.”

Terry chillingly laughed and smiled as the judge recalled how he murdered his cellmate of less than a week.

“I’m not sure why you’re laughing,” the judge asked.

“You are amusing,” Terry replied.

“I found nothing amusing about your behavior or the death of this gentleman,” Venzer shot back.

“God have mercy on your soul,” she added while issuing the life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Terry was already serving a life sentence for armed burglary and armed robbery when he killed Matos by jamming a pen in his brain.

The slain inmate was discovered in a pool of blood while Terry sat on the lower bunk, the outlet reported.

Terry is allowed to appeal his sentence, according to the outlet.
