Horrifying moment big rig careens into cement truck in deadly pileup on major freeway

This is the horrifying moment a big rig plowed into a cement truck sparking a massive pileup on California’s Interstate 10.

Footage captured the huge truck bursting into flames as it careened into oncoming traffic near Thousand Palms on Tuesday morning.

The cement-truck driver was killed and several others were injured in the ensuing eight-car pileup while stunned commuters watched on.

A 62-year-old man from Yucca Valley has been identified as the cement-truck driver, while the big-rig driver is a 38-year-old man from Menifee who needed to be taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs due to major injuries, KESQ reported.

The big rig appeared to have crossed the center divider before the devastating crash, California Highway Patrol officials said. The crash happened near the Washington Street exit.

The crash decimated both trucks, leaving them torn apart and heavily damaged. It is unclear what companies the cement truck or big rig worked for.

The big rig appeared to be white and the cement truck had a red cab with a yellow cement container.

Local truck drivers told NBC Palm Springs that long hours and fatigue are a main concern in the truck-driving industry and emphasized rest and awareness for drivers.

Traffic along Interstate 10 heading westbound was heavily impacted from the crash, with several lanes closed. The road fully reopened by Tuesday night.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, CHP said.
