How to win free Amazon groceries for a year — just by ordering the stuff you already need

Good news for your bottom dollar.

While inflation is increasing food prices at their fastest pace in three years, a lucky few could win free groceries for an entire year.

This month, eligible customers could try their luck and win a year of free groceries courtesy of a $10,000 Amazon gift card.

Beginning June 2, all Amazon account holders who order groceries through Amazon or opt in on the site’s page are entered into the drawing.

The promise of eliminating the annual grocery bill comes as Americans face staggering increases in food costs.

This spring saw the highest year-over-year inflation rate for groceries since August 2023, with consumer prices risng 40% in the 12 months before April.

And it could get worse before it gets better; over the next year or more, experts predict Americans could also see higher food prices due to spiking fertilizer costs.

The Amazon offer applies when customers spend $15 or more on Amazon grocery.

Alternatively, hopeful shoppers can opt in to receive texts from the retail giant or use the “Click to Enroll for Free” button on the offer page daily to be entered for a chance to win.

The promotion runs through June 22, when 100 winners will receive $10,000 in Amazon gift cards.

Winners will be notified via email.

While the gift cards are presumably to be spent on consumables, no boundaries seem to be in place on spending them, so if your idea of groceries is single malt scotch and a stockpile of La Mer moisturizer, you do you.

Come Prime Day on June 23-26, Amazon will continue to highlight its grocery offerings in an ongoing effort to infiltrate the daily experience and influence its customers’ spending habits.

The company will promote millions of Prime Day deals across more than 35 categories, but will place greater emphasis on fresh food and pantry staples.

“We’re working really hard to make grocery a destination during Prime Day,” Jamil Ghani, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide Prime, told Axios.

Amazon Prime members are already eligible for unlimited free delivery on orders of $25.00 or more from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and participating local retailers.

According to Ghani, Amazon delivered 4 billion grocery and everyday essentials items through same-day delivery in the U.S. last year, with Prime members saving an average of about $550 on shipping.

Last year, Amazon revealed it was closing all of its physical Go and Fresh grocery stores and investing more in Whole Foods and grocery delivery.

Amazon is also encouraging shoppers to use Alexa for Shopping to create grocery lists, build personalized deal guides, track prices, set deal alerts, and automatically purchase products once they hit a target price.

“We’re creating more opportunities for customers to shop Amazon when and how they want,” Amazon said in a news release.
