A suspect described as a “Justin Bieber lookalike” is on the run after allegedly trying to snatch a woman off a California street in broad daylight.
The wild encounter unfolded around 3:15 p.m. Friday near Jackson Street and Soto Road in Hayward, where officers were flagged down following reports of an attempted kidnapping.
Police said the woman was walking north on Soto Road when she passed a man heading the opposite direction.
Without warning, the suspect allegedly grabbed her and dragged her roughly 15 to 20 feet.
The victim screamed and fought back as she struggled to break free.
Two bystanders sprang into action, forcing the suspect to let go and flee the scene before he could carry out the alleged abduction, according to Hayward police.
The man was last seen running along Soto Road toward Jackson Street.
Officials described the suspect as a white or Hispanic man about 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds, with bushy hair, thin eyebrows and distinctive-colored eyes.
He was wearing a white T-shirt splattered with red paint, black pants and a black crossbody bag, authorities said.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect looked like a “Justin Bieber lookalike” — a description police included in their search for the would-be kidnapper.
The victim was not physically injured during the incident.
