NYC’s iconic H&H Bagels is blowing towards the Windy City.
The quintessential shop’s claim to fame is its kettle-boiled water bagels. The masterful recipe — baked on burlap-covered wood boards — produces bagels with a mouthwatering chewy center.
This water bagel method has since become synonymous with the New York bagel, with cameos in Sex and the City and The Office. But most recall the H&H namesake after the classic sitcom Seinfeld made it the workplace of Cosmo Kramer.
Originally started in 1972 on the UWS, the NYC staple added locations on the UES, Penn Station and in JFK and LaGuardia Airports. It has also opened up spots in Miami, West Palm Beach, Santa Monica, DC, Chapel Hill, Knoxville, and Tampa.
This time, Chicago is next. H&H revealed its newest location will open on June 25 inside the bustling Fulton Market at 164 N. Peoria St.
“We’re SO excited to bring authentic NYC bagels to Chicago! We’ll also be open for business during our soft opening from Monday 6/22 – Wednesday 6/24… everyone is welcome!” H&H said on Instagram.
Plus, the first 250 customers at the grand opening will scoop up a mystery tote bag with any purchase made. Each tote will come with an H&H gift card — random values included — and some up to $100.
Breakfast eaters dying to get their chance on the Big Apple goodness can check out the new store early, as the location will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a soft opening happening Monday, June 22, through Wednesday, June 24.
The Chicago H&H Bagels menu does not disappoint either and will include the tried and true classics New Yorkers get. This means expect the Classic Bacon, Egg and Cheese, and the Nova Salmon with “the works,” and more.
Plus, a variety of cream cheese and bagel flavors will also be available, like plain, everything, jalapeno cheddar, egg and blueberry, and specialty sandwiches.
Fans have been begging for New York City bagels to hit their city, taking to social media and sharing their excitement.
“I always complain that we need more LEGIT NY bagel spots in Chicago!! I am sooo excited for this,” a user wrote on Instagram.
Another chimed in, “A NY oldie but a goody.”
“This is amazing news!!! More and more New York bagels coming to Chicago, let’s gooo,” a third eager customer said.
Chicago isn’t the only lucky town to score an Empire City favorite, H&H will open up 25 new locations. Florida is getting three, California will get two, North Carolina, Texas and Illinois will also all get one.
