Influencer Nara Smith is sharing a promising update on her 2-year-old daughter Whimsy’s cancer battle.
“I just wanted to come on here and say thank you so so much for all your kind words and messages, prayers, support” Smith, 24, said in an Instagram video shared Friday, July 17. “It has truly meant so, so much to us. [My husband] Lucky [Blue Smith] and I have been going through this and processing it for the last eight months. We were debating even sharing such a private part of our life.”
Nara and Lucky, 28, announced earlier this month that Whimsy was diagnosed with cancer. (The couple also share son Slim, 4, and daughters Rumble, 5, and Fawnie, 9 months. Lucky is also father of daughter Gravity, 8, whom he coparents with ex Stormi Bree Henley.)
“We decided to wait until she was done with treatment and us knowing what the outcome of her situation would be before sharing it and even finding the words to share it,” Nara noted on Friday, referring to Whimsy’s chemotherapy treatment. “Now that she’s finally in remission, it felt like I could find the words to share.”
Nara explained that she decided to share Whimsy’s diagnosis to “shed light on what so many families go through and battle privately.”
“Going through [Whimsy’s] chemo treatments opened my eyes to how expensive medical care is and what a toll it takes on families, specifically,” she said. “I’ve been researching charities and foundations to support. In the meantime, I want to post some links that could help families.”
Alongside her emotional video, Nara highlighted website links to various GoFundMe campaigns supporting other childhood cancer patients and their loved ones.
“Lucky and I have been trying to [focus on] everyday life and [are] taking it day by day,” Nara continued on Friday. “I don’t know whether life will ever feel normal again, but we’re trying to navigate this next chapter the best that we can. But with all that being said, thank you so much to every single person for your kindness. I’m sending all my love to families that are actively still going through this fight.”
Since revealing Whimsy’s diagnosis, Nara was candid via social media about navigating her daughter’s illness.
“Cancer has a way of taking things you never realized you’d grieve. The day I ran my fingers through her hair, strands coating them, I realized I wouldn’t be brushing Whimsy’s hair much longer,” she wrote via Instagram on July 7. “It’s such a small thing, until it isn’t. Tiny curls on her pillow. Hair caught in my fingers after bath time. Hair loss is one of the first visible reminders that life has changed. Watching Whimsy lose hers has been one of the hardest parts of this journey.”
She added at the time, “It wasn’t just hair. It was the little curls I tucked behind her ears, the wispy strands that caught the sunlight, and all the ordinary moments I never imagined I’d miss. … Today her curls are returning.”
