Taylor Swift is known for her love of Easter eggs and Elizabeth Taylor — and her wedding could be a massive homage to both.
The “Fate of Ophelia” singer is rumored to be tying the knot with fiancé Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, in front of 1,000 of their closest friends and family.
As Architectural Digest pointed out, one of Swift’s idols, Elizabeth Taylor, was among guests at a lavish party at the very same venue in 1957.
Taylor’s husband at the time, movie producer Mike Todd, threw a party at MSG to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his Oscar-winning movie Around the World in 80 Days, per the outlet. The bash was even broadcast on television, with CBS’ Walter Cronkite covering the evening. (Cronkite reportedly later called the affair an “essay on empty extravagance.”)
Taylor — who serves as the inspiration for one of Swift’s tracks from her recent The Life of a Showgirl album — played an integral part of the night, cutting into a 14-foot-high cake.
According to The New York Times in 2008, Todd filled MSG with 18,000 guests, 12 elephants, 400 members of the press, 4,000 pizzas, 36,000 doughnuts and 25,000 hot dogs.
Todd, who died a year after the event in a plane crash, later admitted he had regrets about the party.
“It taught me a lesson. I’ll never have a party for 18,000 people. Never more than 17,500 people. 18,000 gets unwieldy,” he said, per the New York Times.
Swift, of course, has a track named after Taylor on her latest album, released in October 2025.
“In this record, there’s a song called ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ which is sort of my emotions and my issues with fame through the lens of cosplaying the life of Elizabeth Taylor, so you kind of meld the two experiences together,” the Grammy winner said in an interview with Elvis Duran last year. “She is always someone that I’ve looked up to as being this very glamorous, very beloved, but for some reason a polarizing figure, which I found myself in that place, too.”
The “Elizabeth Taylor” music video, released in March, features archival footage of the late Hollywood icon.
Taylor’s estate said in a statement to TMZ at the time, “What makes this piece so remarkable is its pure devotion to Elizabeth’s legacy: composed entirely of archival film clips, from her iconic screen performances to candid moments, it is a celebration of Elizabeth from beginning to end, and an homage in the truest sense.”
“We are delighted by this celebration and the care with which Taylor Swift has spotlighted what so many have long understood: Elizabeth Taylor was a true icon, a trailblazer in every sense of the word,” the statement continued. “She lived unapologetically and on her own terms, embracing her public life with grace and courage while fiercely protecting the private world she cherished with family and friends.
