Katie Thurston‘s husband, Jeff Arcuri, gave an update on where the couple are in their IVF journey amid her cancer battle.
“We have embryos,” Arcuri, 38, shared on the Tuesday, July 21, episode of the “Off the Vine” podcast. “Two embryos.”
Arcuri explained why he and Thurston, 35, were waiting before going through with the process.
“We got a house that’s being renovated. It’s hit a lot of hiccups,” he shared. “So our house was supposed to be renovated in maybe four months — that was our initial projection. Now it’s 18 months.”
The pair didn’t want to expand their family while dealing with renovation issues. “So we’re like, ‘OK, we’re going to do this for a while,’” Arcuri continued. “I don’t know. I kind of want to have a home for my baby before a baby for my home.”
He continued: “I’d rather start with the rooms that we want, the way we want to start our family. I know I’ve talked to people that have gone through IVF, women in comedy that have gone through it and had children since and they’re like, ‘Just do it.’ You’re never going to be like, ‘Now [is the right time].’”
Despite what others have told them, Arcuri and Thurston are standing firm in their decision.
“But we literally don’t have a home,” he concluded. “It’s one thing if we were like, ‘All right, we have a great apartment now.’ We live in a hectic area.”
The couple got married in March 2025 after one year of dating. One month before their wedding, Thurston was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer, which has since developed into stage IV and spread to her liver. Throughout the former Bachelorette’s health battle, Arcuri has been by her side.
In April, Thurston revealed her plans to undergo a double mastectomy.
“I’ll continue to pause treatment for another two months. My hormone suppression [medication] does a lot of the heavy lifting in my concert treatment and won’t be paused,” she explained in a social media post. “Removing the tumor will also be beneficial to my fight against cancer.”
After the procedure, Thurston found out that she needed a liver biopsy. Arcuri shared an update on his wife’s treatment journey during a separate interview earlier this month.
“We’re just kind of on the dirt road until we get to the highway,” Arcuri said on Today’s “Happy Hour” podcast. “We’re trying to find the highway, which is going to be her right cocktail of medicine for her.”
Arcuri further opened up about the challenges his wife was facing, explaining, “Right now, certain things are affecting her body in more negative ways than they are helping her body, so it’s just figuring that out.”
He added: “I do have confidence that we will get there. It just sucks. It sucks watching her go through this and the uncertainty — especially for somebody so Type A and organized. She doesn’t like not having control of the situation and so it’s tough. But day by day, I just have confidence. If anybody can take it and handle this, it’s her.”
