LA-rapper Fenix Flexin forced to deny his hugely popular song is AI — listen and decide for yourself

He insists there’s nothing artificial about this hit.

LA-based rapper Fenix Flexin has been forced to deny allegations that his wildly popular new song “Rubberz” was generated using artificial intelligence — as internet sleuths and music industry figures pick apart everything from his vocals to the track’s production.

The song, released in June, has become a bona fide hit and was sitting at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Wednesday morning.

But its rise has been dogged by speculation over whether Fenix actually made the song himself, with listeners pointing to the rapper’s dramatically different vocals, a surprise British accent and a sound far removed from his previous music, according to Futurism.

Listeners certainly have their suspicions.

“All yall not having any idea this ENTIRE song is all AI is hilarious,” one YouTube commenter wrote beneath the music video.

“when yyou throw your lyrics into AI while asking it to sound like the smiths lol,” another joked.

Others branded it an “AI classic” and “AI Slop,” while one simply declared: “Definitely produced by AI.”

Skeptics have also zeroed in on Fenix hitting higher notes than he has typically demonstrated in his music, while one YouTube clip appears to show the rapper awkwardly lip-syncing along to the track.

The bizarre controversy even prompted Fenix to directly address the rumors during an interview clip shared by music outlet Stereogum.

When asked if there was anything he wanted to clear up about the song, Fenix immediately replied, “The AI sh-t?”

“Nah, s—t is recorded like any other song,” he insisted.

The clip then cuts to Fenix performing “Rubberz,” where he appears to lose track of portions of his own song.

Stereogum cheekily captioned the post: “me when I lie.”

Legendary producer Timbaland has come to Fenix’s defense, according to Futurism — although that did little to quiet the skeptics given the hitmaker’s own enthusiastic embrace of AI-generated music.

Producer Medasin was among those questioning the song’s origins, publishing a detailed breakdown last week laying out why he believes “Rubberz” was made using AI.

Medasin claimed a file name visible in a snippet Fenix previously posted of the unfinished track contained the word “Sonauto” — the name of an AI music-generation platform that rebranded as Treblo just two days before “Rubberz” was released.

Fenix later tried to swat down the accusations by posting a video showing a Pro Tools project for “Rubberz,” seemingly offering the session as evidence that the track had been put together conventionally.

But critics, including Medasin, remained unconvinced, according to Futurism, which noted an AI-generated track could theoretically be separated into individual stems and imported into a project.

Fenix later deleted the video, according to the outlet.

Despite all the online detective work, there has been no definitive proof that “Rubberz” was generated using AI — and Fenix has flatly denied that it was.

For now, listeners will have to decide for themselves.
