Lindsey Vonn Shares Graphic X-Ray From Multiple Surgeries After Devastating 2026 Olympics Crash

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn is sharing a new gnarly photo of her broken leg after suffering a devastating crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“I’m bionic for real now ,” Vonn, 41, shared in a Friday, February 20, post via X, along with a picture of an x-ray of her leg.

The x-ray showed her broken bone wrapped in what looks like a medal stabilizing brace.

“As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together but Dr. Hackett did an incredible job,” Vonn posted via Instagram on Friday, along with a carousel of videos of her in the hospital with the x-ray photos. “Thank you Dr. Viola for the surgery assist as well!”

She continued, “With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been discharged from the hospital just yet… almost there. Baby steps. Will explain the injury and what it all means soon.”

Vonn suffered a left tibia fracture during her Olympic downhill event on February 8, just 13 seconds into her run. She was airlifted off the course in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. After the crash, she underwent four surgeries in Italy. She returned to the United States on Tuesday, February 17, and underwent several additional surgeries.

“Just a quick update… my last surgery went well,” Vonn shared in another Friday post. “It took a little over 6 hours. I have been recovering from the surgery but pain has been hard to manage. Making slow progress but I hope I can be out of the hospital soon.  Thank you all for the support. ”

Earlier in the week, Vonn shared that she has not been on her feet in over a week as she continues her recovery from the gruesome injury.

“Been in a hospital bed immobile since my race,” she wrote via X on Monday, February 16. “And although I’m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing #imhome.”

She added, “Huge thank you to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.”

A few days after returning to the United States, Vonn revealed that not only is she recovering physically, but is also recovering emotionally after her dog, Leo, died the day after she broke her leg.

“This has been an incredibly hard few days. Probably the hardest of my life,” Vonn shared via Instagram on Wednesday, February 18. “I still have not come to terms that he is gone …The day I crashed, so did Leo. He had been recently diagnosed with lung cancer (he survived lymphoma a year and a half ago) but now his heart was failing him. He was in pain and his body could no longer keep up with his strong mind.”

She continued, “As I layed [sic] in my hospital bed the day after my crash, we said goodbye to my big boy,” Vonn said. “I had lost so much that meant something to me in such a short amount of time. I can’t believe it. My boy has been with me since my second ACL injury, when I needed him most. He held me on the sofa as I watched the Sochi Olympics. He lifted me up when I was down. He layed [sic] by me, and [cuddled] me, always making me feel safe and loved. We have been through so much together in 13 years.”

On January 30, only nine days before the Olympics, Vonn tore her ACL while competing in a World Cup race in Switzerland. She decided to compete in the Olympics anyway, later claiming her ACL injury had nothing to do with the crash that broke her leg.

“I was simply 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm hooked inside of the gate, twisting me and resulted in my crash,” she shared via Instagram after the crash. “My ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with my crash whatsoever. Unfortunately, I sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly.”
