Los Angeles Dodgers player Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea Freeman, officially have a new team member following the birth of their fourth baby via surrogate.
“London Rosemary Joy Freeman 💕,” the couple wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, April 21, with the first photo of their baby girl. “April 19, 2026.”
Freddie, 36, and Chelsea, 34, tied the knot in November 2014 and went on to welcome sons Charlie in September 2016, Brandon in December 2020 and Maximus in February 2021.
In February, the couple announced they were expecting their fourth baby via surrogate.
“Worth the wait. Baby No. 4 is on the way and our hearts are already so full,” their joint Instagram post read. “We are incredibly grateful for the amazing woman helping bring our baby into our lives, and we’re choosing to honor her privacy as we walk this chapter.”
The following month, Freddie and Chelsea revealed that their impending arrival was a baby girl.
“After three boys … The moment we’ve been waiting for,” they captioned a gender reveal video via Instagram.
Freddie and Chelsea are not new to the surrogacy process. After struggling with fertility issues for years, the duo decided to use a surrogate for their second child. Coincidentally, Chelsea found out she was pregnant just days before the embryo transfer, so Brandon and Maximus were born within less than two months of each other. (The family has chosen to keep private which of their sons was born via surrogacy.)
“It was a lot of doctors’ appointments, a lot of procedures, a lot of tests,” Chelsea told ESPN in February 2021 of her fertility journey. “A lot of them by myself because it was during the baseball season. It’s all worth it in the end, but going through that … definitely one of the hardest things mentally that you could go through.”
Freddie also shared his perspective on the experience at the time.
“Every pregnancy and fertility journey is a little bit different for everyone, and we wanted to respect our surrogate’s privacy as well,” he said. “We tried for a couple of years, and it didn’t happen. We were talking with doctors, and they suggested surrogacy. We jumped at that because we wanted to be blessed with more.”
Despite her struggle to conceive, Chelsea hoped for a big family for years after meeting Freddie.
“As long as I’ve known him, he said that since he was a little boy, he always knew he wanted to be a dad,” she noted. “As important as being a baseball player to him is, I think being a dad is even more important.”
As for her own desires as a mom, she added, “It was always my dream to have three kids by the time I was 30. When my 29th birthday came around and I still wasn’t pregnant, I never thought it would be possible. I think our story is definitely a story that God always has a bigger plan. Whether a family is looking towards fostering, adoption or surrogacy, children … no matter which way they come, [children] are truly a blessing for any family.”
