Officers accused the older man of driving at the 27-year-old three times, striking him on the third attempt.
The alleged victim suffered serious head wounds and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Police arrested the driver about 1pm, after he fled the vehicle and scene on foot.
Officers said the men knew each other.
On Sunday evening, police said the 29-year-old had been charged with one count each of attempted murder (domestic violence) and dangerous driving.
