Manhattan Criminal Court cafeteria crawling with mice, roaches, inspections find

Forget the perps  — the real repeat offenders at Manhattan Criminal Court are the insects and rodents that keep coming back.

Mice and cockroaches are running wild in the court’s cafeteria, which has been shut down after two abysmal city Department of Health inspections.

The open-to-the-public cafeteria at 100 Centre St. has space for about six people, but plenty more for the unsanitary pests, which have been playing “Ratatouille” in the kitchen, according to NYC data and sources.

“Evidence of mice or live mice” was found on two separate DOH inspections on July 1 and July 23, records show.

The cafeteria also was dinged for not keeping food at proper temperatures and for employees using “tobacco or electronic cigarettes … eating, or drinking” while on the job, according to July 1 inspection records.

Despite those nauseating violations, the cafe managed to score “B” grade rating.

“It’s like a landfill down there. There’s a lot of mice. They crawl on the inmates when they’re laying in the cell,” one source familiar with the eatery dished to The Post.

Another source said that the cafeteria said the place needs to be shut down.

“I told them there were mice running by the stove. I saw two of them,” said a recently retired cafeteria worker.

City health inspectors found mice in the kitchen in April 2025, but that issue was cleared up before the next review the following August, according to city records.

Photos from the courthouse showed the cafeteria was closed on Thursday with signs on the door warning that face coverings were required for anyone entering.

“They need to put something better there,” said the former employee.

The cafeteria is currently closed for work “related to the building’s plumbing and drainage systems” and not because of the Health Department inspection results, according to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services.

The timing of the reopening depends on when the facilities work is complete, according to that agency.
