Three homes in Sydney’s west were hit by gunfire overnight in what investigators believe is yet another escalation in the city’s gang conflict.
Detectives say that a home on Merrylands’ Clarence Street was shot about 10.45 on Friday night, followed swiftly by a shooting at a home on nearby Lockwood Street in the same suburb.
By 11pm, another home had been targeted on Wentworthville’s Monash Street.
Police say nobody was injured in the shootings, but “detectives have been told that an unknown vehicle was seen outside each of the homes before the occupants of the vehicle fired several rounds into the properties”.
Videos posted on independent media channel SCN WorldStar appear to have been taken from inside a car as more than 10 gunshots rang out. The grey sleeve and tracksuit pant-wearing leg of a man inside the car can be seen.
In a second video, rap music plays as a car drives to the front of a home, then unloads a firearm towards its facade around a dozen times.
The third video shows a man’s arm as he cocks a large black firearm and then shoots towards another home. It’s caption, written in Spanish, translates as “F— the Almo family and the cartel organisation. Let’s go to war, you sons of bitches”.
Police say they believe the video is legitimate and detectives were hoping to speak to the driver of a white Hyundai sedan that was seen driving away from the Wentworthville home around the time of the shooting.
Anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage is urged to come forward.
