More than 100,000 July 4 fireworks recalled over explosion hazards

Winco Fireworks International has recalled more than 100,000 fireworks devices sold nationwide after federal safety regulators warned the products pose risks of unintended explosions and burn injuries.

The recall, announced by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission on July 2, covers about 87,120 Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake fireworks and roughly 13,500 Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-Pack fireworks imported by the Grandview, Mo.-based company.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Unity 7 Shot 200 Gram Aerial Cake fireworks can tip over during use, creating a risk of serious injury from explosion and burn hazards.

The second recall involves Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-Pack fireworks, which can malfunction and have shots blow out the side of the tube, posing similar explosion and burn hazards.

No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with either product.

The Unity fireworks, model MEF6096, were sold in red, white and blue packaging labeled “Unity” with American flag graphics.

They were available at Pyro City stores and other independent fireworks retailers nationwide from January through May 2026 for between $6 and $8.

The Roman Candles, model RCLR-W8012, were sold in red, white and blue “Hometown” packaging featuring American flags.

They were available at Pyro City stores and other fireworks retailers nationwide from April through June 2026 for between $17 and $19.

Both products were manufactured in China and imported by Winco.

The CPSC urged consumers to stop using the recalled fireworks immediately and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Refunds will be issued either in cash or to the consumer’s original form of payment.

Consumers seeking more information can contact Winco by email at cade@wincofireworks.com or through the company’s product safety recall information online.

Federal law prohibits the sale of products that are subject to a Commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall conducted in cooperation with the CPSC.

The Post has sought comment from Winco.
