A man accused of murdering and torturing a baby boy in Bundaberg, about four hours north of Brisbane, allegedly shook the infant.
Alexander Young faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday morning, where he was denied bail.
The baby boy was taken to Bundaberg Hospital on February 26, 2024, and then airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital the next day.
He died on March 3 of that year.
After more than two years of investigations, police charged 22-year-old Young with domestic violence murder and torture on Friday evening.
“The investigation of a child’s death is a particularly difficult investigation, and it’s for a number of reasons,” acting detective inspector Wade Lee said on Monday morning.
“The investigation itself has been a meticulous investigation, that will largely rely upon medical evidence.”
He said the baby suffered trauma consistent with a “child shake injury.”
Lee confirmed Young was a family member of the child, but would not confirm the exact relationship.
