Nancy Guthrie search may be scaled back, sheriff’s department says no cuts planned

After nearly three weeks without a breakthrough, investigators could soon scale back the search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom, according to a report.

The that the case may shift to a smaller long-term task force model as key leads have come up empty, ABC News reported Friday, citing “sources with knowledge of the case.”

Partial DNA recovered inside 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home remains unidentified. Authorities have not linked a vehicle to the abduction, and no additional footage has been recovered from her home security system.

But the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told The Post that between 300 and 400 personnel remain assigned to the case and that staffing levels are the same as when the investigation began.

The department said there are no current plans to reduce resources but added they would notify the press if that changes.

Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly vowed to recover Guthrie.

“We’re not quitting. We’ll find her,” Nanos told NBC News, nearly three weeks after she was last seen Jan. 31.

Nanos has also publicly cleared members of the Guthrie family, allowing investigators to focus their efforts outward.

Investigators are tracking purchases of a black Ozark Trail Hiker Pack sold exclusively at Walmart that was seen on the suspect in door camera footage in the early hours of Feb. 1.

The suspect is described as a man between 5-feet-9 inches and 5-feet-10 inches tall with an average build.

Rewards for information leading to Guthrie or her captor now total more than $200,000.

The FBI did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.
