Broadcaster Tim Blackwell will fight an application for a final apprehended domestic violence order sought by police to protect a woman, as his lawyer said he continues to have the support of his employer.
The interim order requires that the Nova FM breakfast host not assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate the woman, nor destroy or damage any property or harm any of her animals.
Judge Alexander Mijovich earlier granted the interim ADVO, but confirmed at Newtown Local Court on Wednesday that Blackwell will have to wait eight months to fight the matter in a local court hearing.
Blackwell, 44, has not been charged with any criminal offence.
Speaking to this masthead, Blackwell’s solicitor Paul McGirr said the application will be “strongly contested”.
“He’s just getting on [with his life] and doing what he does best,” McGirr said.
“Regardless of his profile, this is an extremely stressful time, and he’s not guilty of anything … he has the support of his family, close friends and his employer.”
Nova was contacted for comment.
McGirr would not comment on whether the interim ADVO relates to one specific alleged incident, but said the order “does not relate to any violence”.
McGirr said Blackwell wants the matter “finalised as soon as possible” but said the December hearing date was due to the courts being “jammed up”.
The interim order – which also protects anyone the woman has a domestic relationship with – is not the strictest form of an ADVO, which can require a defendant not to contact or go near the complainant.
Blackwell has worked at Nova for more than two decades and co-hosts the Ricki-Lee & Tim show on weekdays, which was launched in February.
In an Instagram caption of a photo with co-host Ricki-Lee Coulter posted in February to spruik the show’s launch, Blackwell said it had been a “dream” to do breakfast radio in Sydney for his entire career.
“So to create a new show with my best mate and wake up with the greatest city in the world every morning is a privilege,” he wrote.
“Giants of the game have come before us and it’s an honour to fill their extra large shoes at my home for the last 25 years, Nova.”
Coulter and Blackwell, who host the show alongside newsreader Sarah Harris, moved from their previous national afternoon drive slot, which they co-hosted with Joel Creasey.
The change was made under a major 2026 reshuffle.
The one-hour hearing will take place on December 18.
