“In Friday’s Business section of the Herald there is a picture of Donald Trump, arm parallel to the ground, pointing his finger,” notes Peter Miniutti of Ashbury. “I’m not sure whether he is pointing at someone in an imaginary crowd or he wants someone to pull his finger. Let’s hope it is the former as the latter may have dire consequences.”
David Griffiths of Wollongong has more on the dreaded curse of KS (C8): “John Brown of Kianga has neglected to warn NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane and federal Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, whose initials are not KS but who went to The King’s School. I also note that State of Origin player Kotoni Staggs has been dropped for the decider. And is it possible that John hails from Kianga South?”
“While studying medicine at the beloved sandstone edifice (C8), it amused me, when surrounded by alumni of King’s, Grammar and Knox, etc, to declare myself a product of Dorrigo Rural School, as it was known then,” recalls Margaret Lorang of Mosman. “My brilliant friend Lyn, later the chancellor of a large American university medical college, also had a rural background and was fondly known in student days as the Cooranbong Kid. Never be bashful about bushie beginnings.”
Janene Randall of Padstow says that “when asked which school he attended, my husband would reply that he ‘went to a GPS school’. Not until pressed would he disclose that he actually went to Gladesville Public.”
Peninsula local Roger Bowie, of Seaforth, has a bit of context regarding Shacktown (C8): “A Balgowlah Boys high school principal, himself an Air Force man, claimed that the Shacktown tag came from the fact that the prefab buildings were metal pressed from decommissioned World War II aircraft, which counters (or complements?) the naval depot claim. Old army ducks, anyone?”
“So, as a pre-Boomer, I am one of the Silent Generation (C8)? Thanks, Granny,” writes Ray Moxom of Denistone West. “We need to get the message out that pre-Baby Boomers are no longer known as Old Farts.” Brett Jack of Bonnyrigg Heights is another generational talent, but we’re unsure of his researching credentials: “Can we spare some space for those of us from the forgotten Generation Jones? Too young to be Boomers, too old to be X-ers. Born ’54-’65.”
“Surely, those of us born between 1939 and 1945 are War Babies?” surmises Patricia O’Brien of Rozelle. “We’re certainly not silent.”
