Human remains were discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said, though there’s no indication “at this time” that the remains are connected to her missing person case.
The remains were found in a desert near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, about 15 miles from the abducted woman’s home in Tucson, CNN reported.
Law enforcement officials told the outlet that the remains appeared to have been next to the busy four-lane highway for an extended period of time.
Deputies were seen at the site where the remains were discovered on Monday, as well as up a private road and in front of a residence at the top of the driveway, according to the news station. It’s unclear what date they were first found.
The mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie has been missing for over six months after she was allegedly kidnapped from her Tucson home on February 1.
Guthrie’s ongoing disappearance has baffled investigators as no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The months since her 84-year-old’s disappearance have been “agony and unending trauma” for daughter Savannah and the rest of Nancy’s family.
“There is not a moment that goes by that we aren’t actively trying to find our mom,” Savannah told Arizona outlet KOLD in July.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been blasted for his handling of the Guthrie case, with many saying the lawman blew early leads that could have led to her rescue.
The sheriff has said in the past that his actions were appropriate.
