Sarah Ferguson is reportedly headed back to the United Kingdom amid news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s surprising return.
Multiple outlets reported that the former Duchess of York, 66, will be returning to England after spending time abroad. Ferguson will be renting a six-bedroom property which costs an estimated $8,000 per month, per The Sun and People. The home is based in the Home Counties near London.
Ferguson has remained out of the spotlight after ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s associations with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein resurfaced.
Ferguson also made headlines in January when the United States Department of Justice released a trove of Epstein Files including past emails, in which Ferguson referred to Epstein as a “spectacular and special friend” and “the brother I have always wished for.” (Ferguson previously addressed backlash surrounding their connection, stating, “I would never have anything to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again. I abhor paedophilia and any sexual abuse of children. It was a gigantic error of judgment.”)
Earlier this year, she allegedly checked into an “expensive wellness clinic” in Switzerland, according to the Daily Mail. Months later, Ferguson was spotted at a luxury ski chalet in Austria.
News of Ferguson’s return home comes days after Us confirmed that Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, will be moving back across the pond six years after relocating to the United States. Multiple outlets reported that the couple are relocating their children, Prince Archie, 7, and daughter, Princess Lilibet, 5, to the U.K. for an extended period starting this month. Archie and Lilibet are scheduled to begin school in the U.K. next month.
“Harry is not as happy in the U.S. as he is in the U.K.,” a source exclusively told Us, adding that they “aim to be somewhere outside of London,” rather than directly in the city.
Harry and Meghan will reportedly keep their house in Montecito, California, and their vacation home in Portugal. They will have a non-royal property in Britain.
Earlier this week, multiple outlets reported that Meghan, Harry and their children were expected to arrive in England on Wednesday, August 26.
Going forward, Meghan and Harry are not expected to resume any official royal duties. Harry will be spending his time supporting multiple U.K.-based charities and patronages while Meghan will continue to run her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
“Harry still operates as if he were a member of the royal family when he evaluates opportunities,” an additional source told Us. “He’s seen royals who have left the royal family, like Sarah Ferguson, whose path he does not want to emulate. He wants to do things that are a right fit for him, but that can be very limiting. And, of course, they need to find ways to make money, so they are eager to find partnerships that are the right fit and fruitful for them.”
