Shocking number of Dems think Americans focus too much on remembering Sept. 11: poll

More than one in eight Democrats think the American people focus too much on remembering Sept. 11, according to a new poll ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

Meanwhile, almost three-quarters of Dems (72%) say Muslims have been treated worse than people of other religions in the US since the attacks, according to a YouGov survey released Monday.

Nearly 3,000 people died when Islamic terrorists hijacked four passenger planes on Sept. 11, 2001, flying two into New York’s World Trade Center and one into the Pentagon, while the fourth was brought down in a field in rural Pennsylvania.

When asked if the American people currently focus too much or too little on the memory of the events of that tragic day, 13% of registered Democrats said too much, the survey found.

Just one in five (19%) Democrats said Americans focus too little on 9/11, compared to 43% of Republicans.

The survey found far more Republicans than Democrats believe that Sept. 11 should become a national holiday to commemorate those who died in the attacks, with 62% of GOPers, versus 43% of Dems.

Democrats were also more likely than Republicans to say that the 2001 attacks still affect the treatment of Muslims in the US a lot.

Almost three-quarters (71%) of Democrats, compared to 42% of Republicans, said the attacks are still affecting the way Muslims are treated.

Some 72% of Democrats said that Muslims have been treated worse than people of other religions since the September 11 attacks, compared to 28% of Republicans who feel the same.

Democrats are also more likely to blame right-wing extremists for the majority of violent attacks in the US since Sept. 11, 2001, than left-wing or Islamic extremists.

Some 26% of Republicans and only 2% of Democrats blame left-wing extremists for the greatest number of violent attacks, while 29% of Republicans and 14% of Democrats say Islamic extremism has been responsible for more violence.

But almost half of Democrats (45%) versus 6% of Republicans say right-wing extremists have committed the greatest number of violent attacks in the US since September 11.
