The suspected gunman behind a horrific mass shooting at a Bay Area high school graduation ceremony that left an 18-year-old dead has been tracked down in Texas.
Officials with the Fairfield Police Department and US Marshals arrested the 17-year-old male at a home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to reports. HIs identity has not been released due to his age.
The suspect in the June 3 shooting that also injured three others aged 11, 20 and 25 is accused of killing Jamario Baker, who was still in his graduation gown when he was gunned down.
Police are keeping him in custody on suspicion of murder as they work on extraditing him to Solano County. Detectives said they worked tirelessly to identify the suspect.
“Investigators conducted dozens of witness interviews, reviewed hours of surveillance and digital video, analyzed photographs and electronic records, executed search warrants, processed forensic evidence, and coordinated efforts across multiple jurisdictions to develop a comprehensive and prosecutable case,” the Fairfield Police Department said in a statement.
The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District said it was “grateful for the diligent work of law enforcement in a statement to KCRA.
“Our hearts remain with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those whose lives have been forever changed by this violence,” the statement continued. “While today’s announcement may provide a measure of relief to some, it does not lessen the pain felt by our community.”
The shooting occurred last month just after Sem Yeto High School’s commencement at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium.
One attendee said the shooting broke out in the parking lot after the ceremony concluded, as families and graduates gathered to take photos.
