A man killed in a fiery Bruce Highway crash on Tuesday night has been identified, as a third vehicle believed to have been following another at high speed in the wrong direction has been found.

Several vehicles were reportedly travelling southbound on the wrong side of the highway about 10.30pm on Tuesday.

One of the vehicles, an Isuzu truck, crashed into a Honda Accord travelling in the correct lane at Burpengary.

The Accord then caught fire, with police confirming its 26-year-old driver was killed instantly.

The Honda driver, a Caboolture man identified in media reports as Andre Roberts, was declared dead at the scene.

“We’re keeping the family in the loop with progress we are making, but of course they are naturally devastated,” Detective Inspector David Harbison said.

The 46-year-old man driving the Isuzu was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remained on Thursday.

Footage from before the crash showed the Isuzu and another vehicle travelling down the wrong side of the highway.

Harbison confirmed the truck was being “followed” by at least one other vehicle for at least a kilometre.

A Ford Ranger has been identified as the vehicle following the Isuzu. It was located at a business on Magnesium Street in Narangba about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

A Narangba man is now assisting police with their inquiries.

Sections of the highway were closed until about 5am on Wednesday after the crash.

Harbison said the collision left a horrific scene for emergency services and should not have happened.

At least two vehicles were seen travelling on the wrong side of the Bruce Highway at Burpengary.

“A young man just driving home … has been killed,” he said.

“It is amazing that no one else was harmed. I think we all know the dangers associated with going down the wrong way on the Bruce Highway.”

The truck driver would not be interviewed by police for some time because of his injuries, Harbison said.

He said it was too early to comment on claims online that a theft had occurred at a nearby business and was linked to the crash.

Harbison addressed comments on Facebook, saying online rumours could lead to wasted resources.

He urged anyone who witnessed the crash or was involved in it to contact police.

“We are particularly interested if you have dashcam of this incident. Even a little snippet of dashcam could be vital to this investigation.”
