Perth residents have woken up this morning to loud thunder, lightning and grey skies, but just one millimetre of rain is predicted to hit the city throughout the day.
The mercury is expected to hit 26 degrees and the humidity is high – around 96 per cent – according to the Bureau of Meteorology, which said storms would likely remain across the area throughout the morning and into the early afternoon.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has also issued a smoke warning due to prescribed burns.
The smoke is expected to clear by mid-morning Wednesday.
The Department’s fire management regional leader for Swan Brodie Selby said there was an “atmospheric condition where smoke settles further towards the ground which is what will cause people to smell and see smoke and have that reduced visibility”.
“The smoke that’s being generated from one of our larger prescribed burns around Bannister. It’s quite a long way off the metro area, around 40 to 50 kilometres so that should filter into the city around midnight,” Selby said on Tuesday afternoon.
