One man is fighting for life and another is seriously injured after they were stabbed in a fast-food restaurant car park in Melbourne’s west.

The two men were found with stab wounds outside a Melton ambulance station about 11.50pm on Wednesday, but police allege the men were attacked earlier in a McDonald’s car park several kilometres away.

Crime scenes remain in place at the McDonald’s carpark on Barries Road in Melton West and outside the ambulance station on McKenzie Street.

A third man has been arrested over the suspected stabbing.

Footage from the scene shows the carpark still taped off on Thursday morning, with forensics officers combing the area for evidence and apparent blood splatters on the roadside.

One gloved officer was seen placing a dark machete sleeve into a brown paper bag.

The two injured men, both aged in their twenties, are being treated in the Royal Melbourne Hospital for upper body injuries.

A 22-year-old Melton South man attended a police station overnight and remains in police custody.
