Two men accused in separate murders are on the run after authorities said they escaped a jail in southwest Georgia.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office urged the public in a Monday, February 9, news release to be on the look out for 20-year-old Rickey Martin and 21-year-old Kentravious Holmes.
Both men broke out of the Sumter County Jail around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, according to the agency.
Martin and Holmes had been detained on several charges at the facility, “including Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Murder,” the sheriff’s office said.
It is not immediately clear how the pair allegedly escaped, as authorities did not reveal additional details on the jail break.
Martin is charged with murder in the shooting death of a 5-year-old girl, according to 13WMAZ, which cited public information released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was also accused of injuring two other people during the alleged February 2025 shooting.
In a February 10, 2025, news release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that Martin was charged with one count of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of aggravated battery in relation to the shooting, which had happened two days earlier, on February 8, 2025.
When the Americus Police Department responded to the gunfire that evening, officers found several people shot, including 5-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts, who ultimately died of her injuries, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Martin was one of a few individuals charged in connection with the shooting.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation did not elaborate on what led to the gunfire in the news release.
It was not immediately clear whether Martin had retained legal representation or entered a plea following his arrest.
In a separate incident last year, Holmes had been sought by the Americus Police Department after he allegedly shot and killed 21-year-old Amon Kevone Harvey at a home on April 16, 2025, WALB reported.
Holmes was found the next month, when he was arrested by Americus police officers on May 3, authorities said, according to the TV station.
Information on Holmes’ legal representation was not immediately available.
A motive for the shooting that killed Harvey is unclear.
Harvey, who his family called “Moody,” was described as “a devoted father to his daughters,” in his online obituary, which also says he “loved his mother and siblings fiercely.”
In the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office’s alert about Martin and Holmes, Martin is described as Black, 5-foot-4, weighing 120 pounds and has “un-twisted dreads.”
The sheriff’s office described Holmes as Black, 5-foot-8, weighing 155 pounds and also with “un-twisted dreads.”
He also has several face and neck tattoos, including a dollar sign on his forehead, a broken heart tattoo and a tattoo that says “Baby Kay” above his right eye, according to the agency.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information on their whereabouts to call 911 or the agency at (229) 924-4094.
Sumter County is located about a 145-mile drive south from Atlanta.
