Two young girls have died in hospital more than a week after they were in a car that hit a tree in Perth’s eastern foothills.
The three-year-old and four-year-old were in a silver Ford Territory about 2.25pm on April 17 on Muriel Steet in Viveash when the car left the road and hit a tree.
The children were rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but it is understood they both died nine days later on Sunday evening.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, and his passenger, a 24-year-old woman, were taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.
They are believed to be the parents of the children.
Police have asked anyone who saw the car about two hours before the crash at nearby Reg Bond Reserve on Bernly Drive to contact them.
The significance of the reserve to the investigation is not yet known, but detectives have asked anyone who saw the car between 12pm and 2pm to come forward.
Police said the driver of a second car spotted near the scene may also be able to help.
“Investigators also wish to speak to the driver of a silver Mitsubishi Triton bearing Victorian license plates, which was travelling along Muriel Street around the time of the crash, as the driver may have information that will assist with inquiries,” a WA police spokesperson said.
Muriel Street is about two kilometres from the reserve, which is a popular spot among families on the edge of Perth’s Swan River.
