Ukraine parliament dismisses Prime Minister Svyrydenko

Ukraine’s parliament on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, dismissing her government and triggering a cabinet reshuffle.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the planned overhaul on 12 July, saying the government required a “reset”.

Zelenskyy said he had offered Svyrydenko a new role focused on co-operation with one of Ukraine’s “key partners”, fuelling speculation that she could be appointed Kyiv’s next ambassador to Washington.

Svyrydenko is well known in US policy circles. She led negotiations on last year’s US-Ukraine minerals deal, which helped propel her to the premiership in the summer of 2025.

Ukrainian media reports suggest she could be replaced by Sergii Koretskyi, chief executive of the state-owned energy company Naftogaz, who recently accompanied Zelenskyy to the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

Koretskyi would take office as Ukraine faces sustained Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. Kyiv has said preparing the system for the coming winter is a top priority as Moscow continues its campaign to degrade the country’s power network, plunging cities into darkness amid freezing temperatures.

Koretskyi has been directly involved in those efforts since becoming Naftogaz chief executive in May 2025, after being appointed by the company’s supervisory board. His tenure has focused on maintaining energy stability despite repeated strikes on production facilities.

Before that, Koretskyi led the state-owned companies Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta from November 2022 until May 2025.
