As American Idol prepares to crown a winner for season 24, viewers can’t stop talking about Hannah Harper.
Ever since she auditioned with an original song titled “String Cheese,” the mother of three has left a lasting impression on the audience with her talents and life story.
“This season has stretched me in ways I never expected. It’s easy to get in my head sometimes, and when I do, my focus can start to shift to places it shouldn’t,” Harper wrote via Instagram in January 2026. “But the goal will always be the same: to encourage, to uplift and to turn eyes upon the Lord — no matter the song, no matter the genre, no matter the setting. American Idol has brought emotions I’ve never had to navigate before, and I find myself constantly coming back to this scripture.”
As the Willow Springs, Missouri, native continues to move on further into the competition, Us Weekly is providing a glimpse into why America can’t seem to get enough of Harper.

Hannah Harper started exploring music when she was just 9 years old, according to her website. While growing up in Missouri, Harper traveled with her family band, The Harper Family, before developing a profound passion for songwriting and music ministry.
When she auditioned for American Idol in early 2026, Harper introduced herself as a stay-at-home mother of three who found healing in music after experiencing postpartum depression.
“Last year around this time, I was bathing the idea of pursuing a solo career in country music in prayer,” Harper wrote via Instagram in January 2026. “I didn’t want to tread on ground that wasn’t appointed for my feet. And boy, let me tell you… this is ground I never imagined myself standing on — but when He opened the door, I ran through it and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads 🤍.”
Did Hannah Harper Almost Quit ‘American Idol’?
In March 2026, Hannah Harper addressed an online rumor that she was leaving American Idol after allegedly signing a record deal with Dolly Parton‘s record label, Butterfly Records.
“This @americanidol TOP 20 did NOT sign a contract and leave the competition😂,” Harper wrote via Instagram at the time. “The amount of AI and false information floating around right now is honestly mind-blowing! Meanwhile, I’m over here just smiling, dancing around and acting like I know what’s going on at @disneyaulani when the truth is I have absolutely no clue.”
What Have the Judges Said About Hannah Harper?
Ever since Hannah Harper auditioned with an original song titled “String Cheese,” judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan have praised the singer for her voice.
“Just with that mountainous bluegrass sound you have, I kept thinking Kacey Musgraves,” Bryan said after Harper’s audition. “I kept thinking a little Dolly [Parton] in there.”
While Richie praised the singer’s range, Underwood applauded the contestant for following her musical dreams as a busy mom.
“You might be my favorite person who has walked through those doors,” Underwood said. “You’re gorgeous. You look famous already. You’re one that I’m going to think about when we leave here.”
Who Is Rooting for Hannah Harper?
In recent weeks, several celebrities have expressed their excitement and support for Hannah Harper as she advances on American Idol.
On social media, Kristin Chenoweth called Harper “my favorite for this year.” Dancing With the Stars pro Witney Carson proclaimed to “love her” while Bachelor Nation’s Raven Gates related to her story as a mom.
“The mom gets it,” the Bachelor in Paradise alum wrote on social media after Harper’s audition. “A personal experience we can all relate to.”
