New details have come to light about Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s separation.
“It happened recently, but they have been having issues for the last few years. Margaret initiated the separation,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “Both of their busy schedules and distance were factors, along with many other things like lack of trust in the marriage.”
The insider adds that “trust issues between both of them” made their relationship “hard.”
“They were still trying to work on the marriage a few months ago, but it ultimately wasn’t working,” the source continues. “At some point, the rose-colored glasses came off for Margaret, and she felt she needed to take a step back.”
The insider notes that Antonoff, 42, “had expressed to friends” that “it was difficult being married and that there were struggles” in the relationship.
Qualley, 31, and Antonoff “don’t have divorce plans yet,” per the source.
Us has reached out to Qualley and Antonoff’s spokespeople for comment.
People first reported on Wednesday, July 8, that Qualley and Antonoff had split after three years of marriage. Nearly a week before, Antonoff attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in New York City on Friday, July 3, without his wife, sparking speculation that the pair had called it quits.
TMZ also reported that Qualley removed her and Antonoff’s wedding photos from her social media page. It is unclear when she erased the images from her social media account.
As rumors began to swirl about Qualley and Antonoff’s breakup, the Bleachers frontman was seen out and about still wearing his wedding ring. The last time Qualley and Antonoff were spotted together publicly was at the 2026 Grammy Awards that February.
Qualley and Antonoff started dating in 2021 and got engaged the following year. The pair tied the knot in 2023 in New Jersey.
“Someone told me that when you die and when you get married is the only time everyone you love is in a room,” Antonoff said of his and Qualley’s “really beautiful” wedding during a December 2023 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers in December 2023. “And I was like, ‘Oh, that is just a thing someone says, and I perform for a living so I don’t mind if the attention is on me.’ And then as soon as it started, my whole body became wet.”
Earlier this year, Qualley briefly addressed her romance with Antonoff in a February 2026 cover story for Vanity Fair. (The outlet claimed that Qualley appeared “reluctant” to discuss Antonoff.)
“I’ve always been very love-oriented,” she told the outlet at the time. “I’ve always been looking for my person, and I met Jack.”
