Detectives arrested year 2 teacher Matthew David Eagleton, 54, allegedly finding child abuse material in his possession as well as a small amount of cannabis in his car. He was taken to nearby Auburn Police Station and charged with several offences.

Eagleton was granted conditional bail in court on Saturday and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 18.

In the meantime, Eagleton is required to report to police once a week and not enter any school or centre for children under 16 as part of his bail conditions.

A staff member at Amity College Auburn said that Eagleton was absent on Monday.

The NSW Education Standards Authority, which accredits teachers, has been contacted for comment.
