World’s top 10 economy airlines revealed — and only one is U.S. based

Picking the wrong airline can turn into a mid-air nightmare. But it turns out some economy class tickets are actually… kind of dreamy?

Aviation consultancy Skytrax has ranked the top economy-class carriers for 2026, listing the world’s best flight experiences based on feedback from annual passenger satisfaction surveys.

Skytrax looked at how the five best economy-class airlines performed on overall comfort and food options. They also looked at entertainment options and Wi-Fi availability.

But though the top five airlines for economy passengers are based in Asia and the Middle East, one American carrier did stand out: Delta.

Skytrax praised its customer experience and massive selection of current and classic movies — but it still couldn’t crack the top 5 economy seats worldwide.

Here are the airlines that did:

1. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines’ secret weapon is their extra-wide seats. On its Boeing 777-300ERs, the carrier sticks to a roomier 3-3-3 layout, where competitors cram in 10 seats across.

Delighted flyers reported feeling far less cramped in the hips and shoulders. Top-tier economy catering also earned rave reviews.

Lachlan Hyde, a pilot and aviation industry commentator and president of the Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia said the airline is the total package with its entertainment system and consistently polished service.

Gary Leff, founder of frequent-travel website View from the Wing shouted out Singapore’s foot bar and dedicated cup holder, which free up tray-table space.

2. Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific is the flag carrier of Hong Kong and was named world’s best airline for cabin crew in 2026. Its second place ranking is based on its larger seats, satisfying catering and wide variety of inflight entertainment.

Leff praised the airline’s standout cabin service, noting that “simply being treated as a person and a customer rather than self-loading cargo can distinguish economy travel.”

Hyde added that Cathay has also equipped its seat-backs with crisp 4K touchscreens paired with Bluetooth audio integration for a “strong entertainment offering.”

3. Qatar Airlines

Qatar is also the flag carrier, established by the Qatar government in 1993 and has been 100% state-owned since 2013.

Qatar’s killer feature is its high-speed Starlink satellite Wi-Fi powered by SpaceX, offering passengers fast browsing and streaming. Passengers can take video calls and send quick texts when Starlink is available.

“Investments that matter throughout the cabin take on additional significance in coach,” says Leff. “Many airlines are adopting low-Earth-orbit satellite Wi-Fi and it makes a big difference staying engaged, especially in economy.”

4. EVA Air

Based in Taiwan, EVA Air shines in the dining department. Its economy menus serve authentic Taiwanese dishes and Asian flavors, landing the carrier second place globally for economy-class catering behind Singapore Airlines.

The adjustable headrests and seat design are also notable.

5. ANA All Nippon Airways

ANA is Japan’s largest airline, a 5-star carrier headquartered in Tokyo. Passenger legroom, optimized footrests and enhanced entertainment options have earned ANA the fifth spot.

One caveat: Not all of ANA’s economy seats are offered the same accommodations, so customers should look at the seat map before booking.

Even so, the airline was commended for its consistency. Hyde said “the seat has to be comfortable, the service attentive, the food worthwhile and the entertainment good enough that passengers don’t spend 10 hours thinking about the fact they’re sitting in economy.”
