An aisle seat could get you advice about walking down the aisle.
Earlier this month, Denver bride-to-be Maya Lorimer was headed to her bachelorette party on a Southwest Airlines flight. When the flight attendant began making an announcement, Lorimer assumed it was about a delay.
Instead, it was about Lorimer’s imminent marriage to Colorado finance manager Donovan Heykoop.
“We have a young lady on this flight that is on her way to her bachelorette party,” said the Southwest staffer. “If you have any kind of advice that you wanna give to this couple as they start this beautiful journey, if you have anything you want to say, just feel free to write it down.”
The flight crew passed out Southwest napkins and branded pens to passengers, asking them to write down tips for a happy marriage to the couple, who will tie the knot on Sept. 20 in La Jolla, Calif.
It was clear the travelers understood the assignment, sending back a hefty stack of well wishes and plenty of advice.
“Soak up the frisky carefree adventures and the ability to wake up whenever you want before you have kids, if you choose to,” wrote one passenger, who called herself a mom of two. “But seriously, ‘daddy’ is my favorite version of my husband!”
“Talk about anything and everything. OVERCOMMUNICATE!” advised another passenger.
“Have a monthly date night forever,” recommended a couple traveling together.
This isn’t the first time that flight attendants have turned their passengers into impromptu relationship therapists.
In 2024, bride-to-be Bri Kunkle (now Bri Olson) received her own stack of napkins en route to her Austin, Texas bachelorette bash, thanks to another member of the hardworking Southwest crew.
Her napkins included missives like “choose each other every day” and “it’s okay to go to bed angry; sometimes a good night’s sleep is all you need.”
And earlier this week, Southwest hosted an impromptu in-flight wedding officiated by one of its pilots, who turned out to be an ordained minister.
The love-ly flights come in the midst of record airline lawsuits, line-cutting brawls at boarding gates and intoxicated passenger reports, with many travelers behaving like it’s their very first day on earth.
This summer has also seen an epidemic of overzealous in-flight preaching, leading companies like Alaska Airlines to remove passengers disrupting safety crews in the name of the “holy spirit.”
In the wake of such chaos, it’s a nice reminder that love is all you need — although an upgrade to business class surely helps, too.
