A woman in her 30s is in a critical condition after being bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said the woman had serious arm and leg injuries.
NSW Police said emergency services were called to the beach before 11.15am, following reports a swimmer had been bitten by a shark.
Police said the woman was pulled from the water by members of the public who commenced first aid before the arrival of emergency services.
Police cleared nearby Coogee Oval to facilitate the landing of the CareFlight helicopter to airlift the woman to hospital. A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said officers were currently assessing whether the woman would need to be airlifted to hospital or transported by road.
Randwick City Council has closed all beaches in the local government area, including Coogee, Clovelly and Bronte beaches.
Police rendered first aid to the woman before NSW Ambulance paramedics attended.
