Final round of July Social Security checks hit this week — find out if you qualify for the maximum payout

The third and final round of July’s Social Security checks will arrive this week.

The standard monthly Social Security Administration (SSA) payments are scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, reaching millions of recipients whose birthdays fall between the 21st and the end of the month.

The first wave of cash hit accounts during the second week of July. The second round of deposits arrived on July 15.

The SSA typically issues these benefits on a staggered schedule determined by a recipient’s birth date. For those born in the final third of any month, checks generally hit on the fourth Wednesday.

This schedule does not apply to individuals who began collecting Social Security benefits before May 1997, or to those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

For these recipients, payments are expected on the third day of every month, with exceptions for weekends and holidays. SSI-only payments are issued on the first day of the month, regardless of when you were born.

For any recipient who does not receive an expected payment on time, the SSA advises waiting three mailing days before contacting the agency via its online services.

Following the July 22 distribution, the next set of scheduled payments are:

  • July 31: Early August SSI payment
  • Aug. 12: Recipients with birthdays from the first through the 10th
  • Aug. 19: Recipients with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th
  • Aug. 26: Recipients with birthdays from the 21st through the end of the month

The future of these benefits will remain a significant discussion, with a projected 28% benefit cut looming by 2032 and a recent think-tank proposal suggesting a cap on annual benefits at $100,000. Currently, the actual amount an individual receives depends on their specific earnings history, as well as the age and year they choose to retire.

While there is no single maximum that applies to every citizen, the top payout for Social Security retirement benefits in 2026 is $5,181 per month, for people who meet the following qualifications:

  • Work for at least 35 years
  • Earn at or above the Social Security taxable maximum during your 35 highest-earning years ($184,500 cap)
  • Delay claiming your benefits until age 70

Ultimately, if a worker earned less than the taxable maximum throughout their career, their final benefit amount will likely be lower than these figures. For those who file for retirement benefits in 2026 at a younger age:

  • $2,969 for someone who starts benefits when they turn 62
  • $4,152 for someone who files at full retirement age (66 and 10 months for someone born in 1959, and 67 for people born in 1960 or later)
  • $5,181 for someone who files at age 70

SSI payments for the rest of 2026 are as follows:

  • Friday, July 31, 2026 (Check for August 2026)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026 (Check for September 2026)
  • Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026 (Check for October 2026)
  • Friday, Oct. 30, 2026 (Check for November 2026)
  • Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026 (Check for December 2026)
  • Friday, Dec. 31, 2026 (Check for January 2027)
