Nolan Wells was gruesomely missing body part during preliminary autopsy, pathologist’s report shows

The independent autopsy on Nolan Wells was carried out with a gruesome missing part of his body, the pathologist who carried it out said in his report.

Attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the tragic 18-year-old’s family as they conduct their own investigation into his death, revealed Wednesday the preliminary results of the post-mortem carried out on their behalf.

The autopsy by the former chief medical examiner for the District of Columbia, Dr. Roger Mitchell, found the cause and manner of the college football player’s death to be “undetermined pending investigation,” with the date of death also unknown.

Dr. Mitchell, who currently serves as president of the National Medical Association, said that one of the limitations his examination had faced was that, when it got to him, the body was missing the throat after undergoing the official post-mortem in Mississippi.

“It is assumed that the initial pathologist retained these structures for additional evaluation,” he wrote.

“The retention of the anterior neck structures during an initial autopsy is a common forensic pathology practice.

“Nevertheless, a posterior neck dissection performed without review of the anterior neck structures, is incomplete.

“Therefore, this pathologist cannot rule out injury to the neck as a contributor or cause of death.”

Jackson County coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. previously told The Post that results of the authorities’ autopsy could take weeks while toxicology tests are carried out.

Wells’ heartbroken parents flew their son’s body over 800 miles from their home state of Mississippi to Washington, DC, for the independent autopsy amid claims the circumstances around his death don’t “add up.”

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick helped with the costs, their lawyer Crump previously revealed.

Here’s the latest on the disappearance and death of Mississippi teen Nolan Wells:

Crump presented the preliminary findings Wednesday morning at the NAACP National Convention in Chicago, as Wells’ heartbroken parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, listened from the audience.

The second autopsy found that Wells had a mark on the back of his head, according to the report.

It describes a “focal area of red discoloration in the soft tissue in the back of the head” that was 12-by-8 inches in the lower part of the skull.

However, Wells’ body had suffered significant decomposition, making it impossible to know if there was bruising on his skin, the report said.
