A 76-year-old Perth man will face court on Friday after federal police allegedly found dozens of images and videos of child abuse material on an electronic tablet seized during a raid on his home.
Australian Federal Police executed a search warrant at the man’s Westminster home on June 30, where they allegedly found a tablet containing images, videos and animated GIFs of child abuse material.
The man has been charged with accessing child abuse material and possessing child abuse material, and could face a maximum of 15 years’ jail for each offence.
He has been behind bars since his arrest on June 30 and is set to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
AFP Detective Acting Inspector Josh Gilmour said the creation, possession or distribution of any form of child abuse material – real or animated – was illegal.
“Those who are found to have engaged with this abhorrent material will be subject to the full force of the law,” he said.
“To those soliciting, possessing or sharing child abuse material – investigators are working tirelessly to identify you and place you before the courts to face justice.”
