A boy has been charged after allegedly knocking a man unconscious with a rock outside a Perth fast food restaurant on Monday, leaving the victim seizing in the carpark.

Footage posted to social media showed a 25-year-old man being approached by a group of teens outside Red Rooster in Falcon about 4.30pm on Monday.

The man was taunted by the children who allegedly threw rocks at him, and he was knocked unconscious.

Bystanders came to his aide and he was transported to hospital. He left the emergency department before he could be treated.

Police said on Wednesday they had since charged a juvenile male from Falcon with assault over the incident, and he will appear before Mandurah Children’s Court later this month.

Witness Joel Marsh told Radio 6PR said he had been eating nearby with his partner when they saw the alleged attack unfold, and they had rushed to intervene.

“As we got out of the car, the majority of them started running away,” he said.

“My partner and I were first ones to get to him, [and we tried] to put him in the recovery position. But he was not conscious, and he was fitting at that stage.”

Marsh said his partner, a nurse, tended to the man while he attempted to stop the teenagers from fleeing the scene.

Marsh claimed one of the boys continued to taunt the man, who was still unconscious, and he detained him by holding on to his backpack.

“I just pretty much said to him ‘your friends have bailed on you. You’re the one here that has to deal with it now. They’re not very good friends, are they?’,” he said.

Marsh said seeing groups of teenagers causing trouble in the Falcon area was becoming more and more common.

This masthead does not suggest the accused teenager was part of one of these groups.

“It’s getting too familiar around here, especially around the other shopping centres as well … it’s going to get to the point where you’re going to get older men take it into their own hands and end up in prison because these children think they can get away with it.”

Amy MacDonald also witnessed the attack and helped intervene, and told Radio 6PR she too was concerned about the increasing prevalence of teenagers in the Mandurah area causing trouble.

“Between Halls Head, Falcon, Dawesville … even if you go into Mandurah Lakeland, you see this kind of behaviour from teenagers in groups,” she said.

“Often, I can’t say I’ve witnessed someone being [allegedly] assaulted in that capacity before, but they’re on their scooters doing burnouts inside of fast food restaurants with families around.

“They’re in groups causing trouble frequently.”

Police have asked anyone with vision or information about the assault on Monday to contact them.
