Forget climate change, Moira and mates stoked the British heatwave

The great British heatwave of June 2026, according to various climate scientists, was proof positive that the world, even in often chilled London, is undergoing an eruption of global warming.

There seems, however, a simpler explanation.

The heat blew in just as a band of Australia’s most prominent hot-air specialists descended upon London.

There was, for instance, Moira Deeming, who seems often to exist within a personal overheated weather system.

Just ask Matthew Guy, the latest to feel scorched by lurching into Deeming’s climate.

Matthew Guy demanded an apology from his colleague on Friday.

Deeming was in London last week when the heatwave melted pavements while at the same time, back home, a bushfire surrounding what might or might not have happened when she and Guy found themselves at the same table some time ago raged out of control.

Happily for Guy, the genesis of the bushfire – initially described confusingly as a headlock – was captured on CCTV and appeared to investigating police to be rather less than a spark worthy of the name, as real as the sort of simulated headlocks that once drew crowds to the wrestling at Festival Hall.

While Deeming’s colleagues were rushing around Melbourne’s Spring Street with fire extinguishers, she was on the other side of the world discussing the elements of an approaching armageddon for Western civilisation with several thousand other frightfully concerned conservatives at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference.

Other responsible Australian citizens who flew to London for the conference, the brainchild of Canadian psychologist and latter-day darling of right-wing populists Jordan Peterson, included former Australian prime minister and new president of the shrinking Liberal Party Tony Abbott, well known for his “absolute crap” critique of climate change.

Another former prime minister, Scott Morrison, went along, too. So did former treasurer Peter Costello and former leader of the Nationals John Anderson.

Travelling along with them was the Nationals’ Bridget McKenzie, who played truant from the Senate in Canberra to breathe a little London fire into the university sector, which she said was so broken by “white guilt” and “climate catastrophe” that the only solution was to break universities altogether. Shades of the Vietnam War and “we had to burn down the village to save it”.

Barnaby Joyce played truant in favour of London, too, tragically leaving the House of Representatives with just a single One Nation representative to fly the one true flag.

Extremely responsible conservative media figures Peta Credlin of Sky News and The Australian’s Chris Uhlmann and Greg Sheridan attended the mighty meeting of minds in London, too.

Not a lot of believers in the science of climate change among these responsible citizens, you might conclude.

It clearly wasn’t necessary.

They brought their own heated air. By the last day of the talkfest, June 25, the United Kingdom recorded its highest June temperature on record: 36.7 degrees.

If further evidence of Australian hot bluster were required, we offer that Karl Stefanovic, podcast mate of such responsible blowhards as Tommy Robinson, was sounding off in the UK at the same time.
