Mamdani gets dismal report card from New Yorkers after less than 100 days in office

Only about half of New York City residents approve of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s job performance during his first 100 days, a poll released Wednesday found.

The measly 48% approval rating in the new Marist College survey was lower than the one Mamdani’s predecessor, Mayor Eric Adams, had at the same time during his tenure.

Only 30% of Big Apple respondents said they were happy of the job the democratic socialist is doing three months into his first term, with the rest undecided, according to Marist.

Mamdani’s two major weaknesses in the survey were the high percentage of voters still unsure about him — and his continued unpopularity among Jewish voters, said Marist polling director Lee Miringoff.

“There are a lot of people still on the fence. The jury is out,” Miringoff told The Post of the findings.

Mamdani has a fraught relationship with many Jewish voters because of his bashing of Israel. He support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against the Jewish state, has accused Israelis of committing genocide in Gaza and has associated with left-wing activists considered antisemitic, such as Hasan Piker.

“Mamdani is going to have to pass the test of time with the Jewish community,” Miringoff said.

“Jews are the voters least likely religious group to give Mamdani the benefit of the doubt.”

Mamdani also underperformed Adams, who notched a 61% job approval rating during his first 100 days, according to a March 2022 Marist survey. The poll showed 24% disapproved and 15% were unsure.

Adams’ early high water popularity would later crater so badly amid corruption scandals and a migrant crisis that he dropped his re-election bid last year.

While there was cause for concern for Mamdani in the new poll, there were also some positives.

A majority of registered voters — 55% — said they had a favorable view of Mamdani compared to 35% who did not, with the remainder unsure.

Only 38% of Jewish residents had a favorable view of Mamdani and 55% had an unfavorable view — the only group of religious New Yorkers to give the new Hizzoner a thumbs down.

But many voters also saw promise and felt good vibes from Mamdani, believing he’s a hard worker who cares about them.

Among those findings:

  • 60% of respondents think the mayor is fulfilling campaign promises, while 36% disagree.
  • 56% say things in the city are moving in the right direction, while 43% say they are moving in the wrong direction.
  • A slight majority of respondents  — 52% — think Mamdani is changing the Big Apple for the better, while 27% say he is changing it for the worse, with the rest unsure.
  • 61% say Mamdani is a good leader who understands their problems and is trying to unite the city.
  • 58% trust Mamdani to make decisions that are in the city’s best interest, while 41% do not.
  • Nearly 75% believe he’s working hard as mayor.

The Marist Poll New York City survey of 1,454 adults was conducted from March 26-31 via live interviews, texts and online.

It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
