“ABC TV 24 News recently ran a story about Qantas adding an additional “20 litre” fuel tank to make the AU-Europe trip in one hop,” notes David Southwell of Pymble. “Not one, but two of the seemingly oblivious presenters read this same story. Ron Burgundy moments, or does Qantas have the most fuel-efficient jet ever? I guess one of the crew has to fill the jerry can with Avgas on the way to work.”
Jo Rainbow’s West Berkshire experience (C8) continues: “In Oxford we drove past Toot Hill Butts. I wonder if it is an effluent area.”
“My first movie (C8) was a charity screening of Jedda in 1959,” recalls Andrew Cohen of Glebe. “There was a garden party afterwards. I was traumatised, terrified, and I recall several stark images that I can’t exclude even now as to how fearful I found them. I recall that director Charles Chauvel sat me on his knee, trying to console me. I wasn’t sobbing but describing at high volume what was scary. I was four and haven’t seen it again.”
George Zivkovic of Northmead perceives that “Roy Masters, in his column, suggested allowing one attacking kick, or forward pass to an offside receiver, per set of six tackles will perhaps achieve ‘global domination’ for rugby league”. Sorry, Roy, but that’s already been happening in the games I’ve been watching this season, along with attackers in front of kickers, dubious play-the-balls and Clayton’s scrums.”
Shout-out to the Manly Observer, an independent publication bucking the trend by adding a print edition along with a real-time digital presence and, as Allan Gibson of Cherrybrook points out, is a dab hand at alliteration, with the headline, “Baby-faced booze bandits busted by bystander”. We give it a B+.
While Stewart Martin of Mangerton reckons “the discussion about porcupine meatballs (C8) is simply a riddle wrapped in an echidna”, Meri Will of Baulkham Hills writes: “Simply called tomato meatballs in my family, they have served us well. We usually have them with mashed potato, carrots and peas. No matter how they’re cooked – oven, pressure cooker, stove top or slow cooker – they are easy, delicious and nutritious.”
“Sorry, Gary Hay (C8), but Band-Aids are an easy open compared with the plastic battery packets that normally cause the wounds that need said Band-Aids,” says David Storie of Windsor Downs. “It’s a symbiotic relationship like no other.”
